Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III Tweed Combo. It really is nice knowing that I truly have a limited edition item that has a vintage look. Also, the clean tone is still amazing. More importantly, what it cannot do. The amp's drive channel is great for SRV bluesy overdrive and other blues rock tones. Very mid range overdrive tone. But this amp's.
These JJ Tubes sound AMAZING in this Blues Deluxe. Much better than the stock Groove Tubes. FENDER LIMITED EDITION BLUES DELUXE OVERVIEW A 150-unit limited run of this authentically vintage-style amp was introduced in spring 2012. Aged vintage style and classic blues tone in one versatile amp. This limited-edition Blues Deluxe model delivers boutique tube tone, classic features and great value perfect for discerning rock, blues and country players.
Premium features include darkened lacquered tweed covering, vintage-style brown/gold grille cloth and a single 12' Jensen P12Q speaker that produces articulately sparkling clean tone and growling overdrive crunch. 40W output This FSR pairs classic Alnico chime with the looks of an amp that's spent most of its life delivering the goods to a smoky Juke joint or bar.
I looked for an amp like this for a while, that has a good clean tone to build off of that still can get a nice subtle tube 'drive' at higher volumes. This amp has the ability to provide that but, like most stock amps, requires a little tinkering to get the best results. I swapped out the stock speaker for a Jensen C12K (very nice, clean and powerful speaker), Then upgraded the power tubes to JJ's and RAISED the bias (it comes biased VERY cold from the factory), and then swapped out the 12AX7 preamp tubes for two JJ's 12AT7 - this lowers the gain in the preamp stage and has the greatest impact on providing a lot more headroom. UTILIZATION This amp definitely has the quality of the 'fender clean' but it is darker and less spikey than the Hot Rod Deluxe. More useable in my opinion. It is designed to have the 'Tweed' character in its stock form so it will breakup rather early (around 4 on the volume) if played stock. SOUNDS Sounds great, very warm and clear.
OVERALL OPINION Overall, If you want vintage, 'boutique' tone for not a lot of change, this is where you get it. It's a Fender!
They wrote the book on amp design back in the formative days of rock 'n roll! For me, I keep everything stock, and this amp is definitely at its best when cranked-the 'normal' channel emanates a warm, sparkly, spongy yet crunchy overdrive when maxed out, which is just the ticket for classic rock, punk, or hard blues. Playing at max (if possible) also helps wear in the speaker and tubes, so that when going back to playing at bedroom volumes, you can get even more warmth and responsiveness. The only complaints I have are that a resonance knob would be useful, as well as a half-power switch. If you are into blues rock or mild rock tones then this is the amp for you. If you play pop music or something similar to Coldplay then this amp will be right up your alley. If you enjoy the tones and voicing of the Rod Deluxe amp but want a warmer for vintage style tone then this is the amp for you.
I have been a fan of the Hot Rod deluxes for quite some time now. This is a tube amp made by Fender.
It's a similar amp to their Blues Junior, but it is a much bigger and therefore louder amp. It's part of their newer Hot Rod Series (at least this reissue is). It has two 1/4' inputs, two channels (clean and drive), 40 watts of power, a solid state rectifier. It also has controls for volume, drive, EQ (bass, middle, treble), reverb, presence and master volume. UTILIZATION Getting a good sound out of this is relatively easy. I tend to prefer the drive sound, even when I'm going for a cleaner tone, as the clean channel lacks some of the bite that I associate with tube amps. The clean tone definitely feels a little weak, and tinny almost.
But a good way to deal with that is to increase the low end, roll of some of the high end on your guitar's tone knob, and keep going. The Drive tone is definitely much better in my opinion.
SOUNDS I like using this amp mostly with Fender Guitars. It doesn't do the hard rock thing very well, so a humbucker probably wouldn't work on it as much as a single-coil pickup would, hence the reason Strats and Teles tend to work better. I like the sound of this amp, though I think it could honestly be a little better. The clean channel is just far too pure and weak for my taste.
For an amp with blues in the name, it doesn't have a lot of grit, at least not until you get to the drive channel. There is where the amp really starts to shine. I think that that channel is honestly better for clean sounds anyway, as it's got a little bit of grit to it when you hit the strings harder. OVERALL OPINION I liked the dirty channels on this amp, but not so much the clean. That tends to be my consistent complaint with all the Hot Rod amps. I guess they just have different taste than I do when it comes to this stuff. It's not that expensive so it's not exactly a bank-breaking investment, but it's also not the best amp out there.
I'd say save up for something a little bit better than this, and I don't usually say that about most Fender amps! This one just doesn't really have it as much as the other ones do. I've been playing guitar for over 30 years. My first guitar lesson was when I was 10 years old. I play guitar and mandolin.
Currently i'm playing in a folk/bluegrass trio, and a four-piece rock band. My musical tastes range from rock, folk, blues, jazz. I played this amp quite a bit before settling on a tube amp that was a little less expensive.
You can pick up one of these beauties at Guitar Center for $629. This Fender Tweed Blues Deluxe is a really nice amp! I played it quite a bit before settling on another brand tube-amp, only because of price.
It's got the wonderful retro-tweed cover, chicken-head knobs, and classic grille that all give it that 50's look and feel. 40 watts of pure tube tone gives you plenty of power for just about any gig. A quality 12' Eminence speaker rounds out the sound. Spring reverb, normal and bright switch, and overdrive gives a wide array of tones and styles. Fender quality, great looks, tube tone, what else can I say? There really isn't much to dislike about this unit.
The price is a little high, but still a deal for what you get. Construction was top-notch. Fender quality, nice tweed cover, seemed well constructed. This is a great amp, it's got that wonderful tube tone and plenty of power.
Cool rretro tweed looks, and Fender quality! This review was originally published on. 3 AX7 lamps and two 6L6 power to 40 watts, reverb effects loop and switch UTILIZATION Super simple configuration, with a good guitar, it's plug and play. No manual for me, I bought it used but it is not necessary.
SOUNDS The clean tones and crunch are beautiful. For hard he will do with another amp. If you can, plug it into a speaker Celestion Alnico Blue with (note the power!). The rendering is awesome. OVERALL OPINION I use it since 2009, no crashes, no problem. I bought it in 2009 to a musician who bought it in 2008: the lamps have not been changed and the sound is still good. But I am careful with my equipment either at home or in transit.
If you have any problems with the power too much playing at home, you can insert an effect with a volume control in the effects loop. Maybe you will not lightly saturation 6L6 power, but you can grow lamps preamp turning down the volume in the effects loop.
I do it again this choice without hesitation. Tube amp and preamp for 3x12ax7 2x6L6 for power, the transistor is correct amp made in Mexico for version Reissue United States, not unlike what is written on some commercial site, though it is the original made in United States, unless Mexico is back in the US. The package is nickel from house to pedal board. Tweed finish could have been darker as the 57 Deluxe is that it is not missed but it's a bit too bright for my taste it is limited in Tweed Peavey UTILIZATION RAS SOUNDS The clean is very round and warm we feel that there is presence of the fat as I like The dirty channel is very melodic him very usable unlike what one might think there are many notes very bluesy and light The reverb of the Fender must have word 'beautiful' The finish of the amp recalls the vintage, this attention, the sound of this amp is like Fender would have us believe good vintage, as it is modern with a touch more. I compared it with the, the Deluxe VM and Hot Rod are no good bah pictures other sound cold, without the presence. See garish OVERALL OPINION Good against big worry for the volume.
It is not at all progressive to a puree it sends the 40 watt one feels in your face. For me it is unworkable in the same apartment with a power attenuator Those who want to play house with, go your way. Bet more on the Blues Junior I sold it since it's still a very good tube amp for its price, too bad that the correction does not come to light it would have been the coup, comprehensive Else the vibrations of the screws had his small frame and big power too, will have to play the correct screwdriver for this bug design, shame. Looking back I will not repeat that choice 40 watts is enough to have fun with, not exploit it as they should, at once I replaced the 65 deluxe, P.
